CONFERENCE INFORMATION

We are excited to welcome you to the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio for the 2019 Midwest American Society of Biomechanics (ASB) Regional Meeting. The meeting will be held Thursday, February 28th and Friday, March 1st at Curran Place on the University of Dayton campus.

We are looking forward to welcoming faculty and students from institutions in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and beyond. Funded in part with support from the American Society of Biomechanics, ASB regional meetings are student centered gatherings which provide opportunity for graduate students, mentors, and other researchers to network and build collaborations as well as to practice scientific communication in a supportive environment. We hope that the convenience and cost of our meeting in Dayton will allow faculty to bring larger groups of students than might otherwise be able to experience the national (international this year) meeting. We also encourage individuals who work in related fields but who may not currently be a part of the ASB or biomechanics community to attend so that we might learn from each other.

Hosted by Dr. Kimberly Bigelow and supported by University of Dayton biomechanics faculty and students in engineering, physical therapy, and health and sports science, we look forward to welcoming you to our campus. Questions about the conference can be directed to MidwestASB2019@udayton.edu

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Abstract submission opened on Monday, December 10th and closes on Friday, January 25th at 5:00pm EST. Abstracts should be prepared according to past ASB templates in the style of 2 columns and a maximum of 2 pages. The template with instruction is available below:

Abstracts should be submitted by email to MidwestASB2019@udayton.edu
Abstracts pertaining to all areas of biomechanics, including the scholarship of teaching and learning in biomechanics, are encouraged. Students can submit research similar to work they plan to present to ISB/ASB 2019 as an opportunity to practice and receive feedback prior to the annual meeting. Abstracts detailing work-in-progress, especially by undergraduates and early-stage graduate students are welcome. Podium and poster sessions are anticipated.

Please note that the abstract template specifies a maximum of a 2 page submission, as standard with ASB conferences. Since this year ISB/ASB has gone to a one-page (two-column) abstract, this length would also be welcome for submission to the regional meeting. However, the ISB/ASB 2019 template is slightly different in its headings and formatting; the regional meeting template provided should be used even if the length of your regional meeting abstract is to be shorter than two full pages. (Notably, the "Summary" heading at the start of the ISB/ASB template should not be included for the regional submission, font size should be changed from 10 to 12, and titles and headings should be all capitalized). If you have prepared a 1 page ISB/ASB abstract according to their template and then change font sizes, etc. you will likely be over a page but not at 2 pages - this is fine and reviewers will be instructed as such.

LOCATION

University of Dayton, Daniel J. Curran Place
1700 S. Patterson Blvd
Dayton, OH 45409

We anticipate Dayton being a fairly convenient drive for people as close as Ohio State (~75 minutes) to as far as Chicago (~5 hours) or Wisconsin (~6 hours). The conference will not supply shuttle service to the conference/hotel from the airport. All arrangements must be made in advance.

For those who drive and stay at the Marriott, parking is free.

You will likely want to drive to Curran Place where the conference activities will be held each day. Parking is available for free. Please note that Curran Place is not on the main campus. You can view a map of campus to locate Daniel J. Curran Place in relation to the Marriott at the University of Dayton and main campus.

Dayton, OH 45409
1-800-MARRIOTT*

*Individuals must identify themselves as members of the Midwest ASB Room Block group when initially making the reservation to receive the negotiated rate of $142/night plus taxes (13.5%).

Important notes about making your reservation!:
  • We encourage 3+ individuals to a double queen room to maximize the room block. However, please feel free to book to your comfort.
  • Roll-away beds will be limited, if available. Blow-up mattresses are available upon request beyond that.
  • Reserving guests must include the names of all staying in their room under the "special comments" or "request comment" sections. This will ensure proper resources are ready and available for your room.
  • Likewise, reserving guests will need to indicate how many people will be in their room. There is no additional charge per night for extra people in the room. The Marriott wants to ensure proper resources are ready for your stay!
  • The Marriott cannot add individuals to guest rooms unless the reserving (paying) guest makes the request change.
  • All guests reserving a hotel room in this block must register for the conference (see the "sign up" button below). This will be reviewed by conference organizers regularly to ensure those reserving rooms have registered for the conference.

The deadline to book your room is Wednesday, February 6th, 2019!
